Ruminations about life and the world

You have everything you need

Noah “40” Shebib is one of the best producers. If you don’t know “40”, I know you’ve heard his music. He’s the genius behind all of Drake’s music and has consistently produced hits with Drake over the last decade.

40 joined Kevin Durant on his new podcast called the ETCs and mentioned a few key insights that sparked this blog post.

First, Durant’s co-host Eddie Gonzales asked 40 if he was particular about his studio setup and specifically at the 1:15 mark. I was ready to hear an elaborate discussion of how 40 needs his equipment to be at a certain standard to produce excellent quality work.

His response was quite the opposite.

40 said, “Anything you have is really all you need.”

40 talks about a blog post that he put up in which he urged artists to realize that you don’t need professional studio space to make music. All you need is a microphone, a laptop, and an interface.

It’s easy to make excuses for how little money you have or how you don’t have a particular connection to make your goals come true.

40 sums it beautifully in a few words.

Resourcefulness is a crucial skill for anyone to be successful and build what they want. We get so focused on the goal itself that we never build the roadmap and ingredients to what is required to achieve that goal.

After I write my goal, I like to ask myself, “What do I need to get the goal done?” When you ask yourself this question, it’s essential to distill it to essential items, and you will be surprised at how easy the problem is.

For example, my goal is that I want to create an online course. Well, what do I need to get this goal done?

  1. Laptop
  2. Screen recording software
  3. Microphone
  4. Microsoft PowerPoint
  5. Udemy or marketplace to host my course

Well, there’s not a whole lot that you need to get this done. This exercise does a great job of slowly removing the barriers you think you have for a specific goal. This mindset also allows you to focus on achieving it versus thinking about how you can’t reach it. This is a significant mind-shift when pursuing any goal.

When you approach your abundant mindset and believe that you care enough to achieve it, your mind can create a path between you and the goal of attaining it truly.

So stop making excuses and believe that you have everything you need to achieve what you want to do. No matter how big a goal it is. There are ways to achieve it at this very moment.

Nothing is farfetched. Focus on the possible.
