It’s crazy to believe that we’re still in this pandemic with no real end in sight. Humanity has gone through so much from racial tension, unemployment, death in families, and a lot more. On top of all of it, we have a crucial election coming up here in the US that can change fundamentally how the next four years become.
Even with all the downs that we’ve has humanity over the last year, I continue to believe that we’re at the precipice of the new Roaring 20s.
There have been many pandemics and epidemics that have occurred over time. Still, almost exactly 100 years ago, we had the Spanish Flu Pandemic that took millions of people’s lives and infecting an upwards of 500 million people globally.
Life was hard back in 1919-1920. We just wrapped up World War I and now dealing with a global pandemic without the technology and tools that support us today. There weren’t smartphones and delivery services to get food and supplies. There was no concept of remote work either.
However, what happened next was amazing.
Once the pandemic and war were over, America went through one of the prosperous decades in history.
From 1920-1929, it experienced one of the most massive economic growths because the economy transitioned from a wartime economy to a consumerism economy. According to Balance, America grew its economy by over 42% during this time.
- Cars fled major cities as Henry Ford sold about 15 million automobiles by 1927.
- People were taking on the mantra of “Live now, pay later.”
- Major airplane companies were born.
- Modern-day Hollywood took form with the emergence of new companies like Warner Brothers.
- The mass broadcasting through radio took off and became an essential channel for advertisement.
- F. Scott Fitzgerald published The Great Gatsby, which highlighted consumerism, energy, and vitality of the 20s
I know I’m going on a limb when I say that history will repeat itself, but I’m convinced that we will experience another second coming of the roaring 20s.
- People are tired of staying at home away from their friends.
- Remote work is excellent and efficient but not the same as meeting customers in person and building an in-person relationship.
- It’s tough not to be able to travel and see how beautiful the world is
- When’s the last time you’ve been to a party/
Once this pandemic is over, we will see one of the greatest economic booms in history.
- People are going to come alive and spend money on new experiences. Travel and flights are going to sky-high to record numbers
- There are going to be massive parties. If you thought Coachella and parties were big, wait until you see what’s to come
- Noteworthy innovations and breakthroughs are worked on as we speak
- Significant health research will bear fruits and solve some of our most challenging COVID related problems
I know it’s easy to lose hope, and it feels like we’ve seen our world fall apart a million times, but I believe that we’re going to see some of the most prosperous times of our lives.
Perhaps, I’m delusional. I could be completely wrong.
However, I’ve taken a trip down to reading about the 1920s, and if history repeats itself, I think we’re in for a beautiful ride for the next decade.
Tough times are indeed temporary.
